Dendrobium is a genus in the family Orchidaceae. It is a very large genus, containing more than 1,800 species that are found in diverse habitats throughout much of south, east and southeast Asia, including China, Japan, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, New Guinea, Vietnam and many of the islands of the Pacific.
Orchids in the genus Dendrobium have adapted to a wide variety of habitats, from the high altitudes in the Himalayan mountains to lowland tropical forests and even to the dry climate of the Australian desert.
Dendrobium is abbreviated as Den. by the Royal Horticultural Society. Some species are in great demand by orchid lovers. This has resulted in numerous varieties and hybrids.
Some Dendrobium species are cultivated as medicinal plants.The noble dendrobium (D. nobile) for example is one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Dendrobium required 50% shade. it can tolerate full morning sun followed by an afternoon of shade.
Do watering in morning make sure medium is almost dry out between watering. Check the medium with your finger – if you feel moisture do not water.
when your orchid is blooming, fertiliser is not needed. we using Green care 30:10:10 for small plants ( we used two times in a week) and Green Care – 13:27:27 for big plants. one time in a week.
when in very hot conditions it good to provide humidity by Humidity tray or some other means.
usually we send plants with bare root . There will be some mixture around root system. Need to pot these plants when received it. The medium we suggested is coconut fibre and charcoal. There will be tag on each plant to recognise the plant
